It has been settled in the Roman period, situated on the north end of Dugi otok on the coast of the Ćuna bay, which is through a narrow channel conected with the Pantera bay.
Popular meeting point for boaters and nature lovers.
The pearl of Veli Rat is the lighthouse Punta Bjanka, the biggest on the Adriatic's, 42 meter high.
It shows the way to the sailors for more than 150 years.
In the village there is a parish church St. Ante and in the yard of the lighthouse a chapel of St. Nicholas, the guardian of the sailors, with Roman missal from 1869. The is the ideal place for very popular romantic weddings.
