Small village, with well known cave Strašna peć, the first organized excursion destination on Dugi otok and wider, the same one that Austro-Hungarian emperor Franz Josef visited in 1904.
A pre-Romanic Church of St. Pelegrin (7th-9th century) is situated on a small peninsula in the picturesque bay. It is one of the most important examples of old Croatian sacred architecture. The Baroque font with Glagolitic inscription from the 16th century was transferred to the parish church, dating from 1670.
In the old times there was a monastery of hermit St. Antony with St. Andrew's church.
Many beautiful coves are ideal for fishing and tourism.
Savar is also well-known for the stone quarry, which provided the material for the building of Zadar Roman Forum, palaces and churches in Rome and Venice, as well UN building in New York.
